Hatch joint venture on East Harbour Transit Hub to enhance Toronto's regional connectivity

Toronto, CA - Hatch is proud to provide the design, engineering and architectural services for the East Harbour Transit Hub (EHTH),that will strengthen transit options for the City of Toronto.

10 Mars, 2025

The EHTH will support local transit needs in the community and regional connectivity by providing access to GO trains and the future Ontario Line subway, and enabling a future TTC streetcar extension in one location. When completed, EHTH will be integral to one of Canada’s largest transit-oriented communities (TOC).

A collaborative alliance delivery model was chosen to drive progress, risk and reward sharing, and deliver world-class infrastructure that meets the evolving needs of the community. In the project alliance agreement phase, Hatch is continuing as the detailed design consultant in the role of Design Non-owner Participant and as the overall Engineer/Architect of Record for the station. Hatch’s scope of services includes project management, architectural design, detailed engineering, and construction design support services.

The EHTH Alliance Project is a collection of infrastructure works to enable the East Harbour Station, a new interchange station connecting the Lakeshore East and Stouffville GO rail corridors with the Ontario Line Subway System. It includes the design and construction of a new Eastern Avenue Railway Bridge, retaining walls and new GO rail tracks, segments of the Ontario Line Guideway at-grade, track and platform bridges over the future Broadview Avenue Extension, and the East Harbour Station facilities.

"The Metrolinx team is proud to work with partners in government and industry to deliver more transit options, reduce commute times, and ease congestion. East Harbour station will be one of the most important nodes on the region's transit map. It will connect the Ontario Line to an expanded GO network in a way that will completely re-shape how we move through Toronto and beyond."
-Michael Lindsay, Interim President and CEO, Metrolinx

“East Harbour Transit Hub is a placemaking project that will enhance and forever change the Riverdale community with the second-busiest transit hub on the Metrolinx network. We are proud to be designing such an important landmark that serves as the catalyst for one of Canada’s largest transit-oriented communities in the east-end,” said Philip Murray, global director, Management and Delivery, Hatch.

With the forecasted regional growth (an estimated 9 million people calling our region home by 2041) and the planned GO Expansion and Ontario Line projects, EHTH will be one of the busiest and most significant stations in Metrolinx’s transit network. As such, special consideration has been given to the design of EHTH to give the transit hub an immediately recognizable identity that signifies transit, the movement of passengers, and urban development and regeneration.

EHTH is being designed to align with Metrolinx’s commitment to design excellence and their goal to be a world-class transit facility that will focus on safety and passenger experience while following the branding and architectural language set in Metrolinx’s Design Standards to create a cohesive design that is consistent and familiar throughout the Metrolinx transit network.
