Predicting Blast Furnace Reline Timing: Methods, Results, and Comparisons

In this presentation, Rachel Santini and Mitchell Henstock discuss technologies that allow for the accurate timing of blast furnace relines. This includes a discussion of the scientific methods used to measure refractory thickness, and the strengths/weaknesses associated with each method. A real-world case study is then used to demonstrate the power of accurate blast furnace reline timing.

Mathematical Model of Induration Furnaces for Optimization and Digitization Applications

A predictive, three-dimensional, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model synchronized with a one-dimensional gas network model has been developed that is adaptable to a range of machine configurations and sizes. The model includes heat and mass transfer in the pellets and process gas, pellets drying, heterogeneous reactions, and combustion reactions for straight-grate as well as grate-kiln machines.
