Leveraging exceptional, diverse teams we apply vast technical and business knowledge to design and build practical, safe, and innovative solutions to combat climate change. We take a scientific, evidence-based approach to develop solutions pursuing the twin goals of:
- Reducing the release into, and ultimately the presence of greenhouse gases in our atmosphere
- Adapting our built and natural environments for climate change impacts
We lead in achieving these objectives by investigating, developing, and implementing the following strategies simultaneously, to transition away from carbon:
- Avoidance of carbon combustion (including the reduction in demand for energy and products requiring carbon)
- Reduction of CO2 generated by improving the efficient use of carbon
- Removal and sequestration of carbonaceous gases from our atmosphere (either at point source or directly from the atmosphere)
- Improvement of society’s resilience to the earth’s changing climate
2023 Sustainability Report
We define sustainability as the synergistic relationship between economic performance, environmental protection, and community engagement for all stakeholders.
As we look to the future, we remain focused on protecting the environment and the people we serve by developing and supporting innovative technologies and strategies that strike an appropriate balance between progress and sustainability.
It is our sincere desire to promote sustainability by reducing carbon emissions, developing clean, renewable energy, improving Indigenous engagement, and advancing environmental and social due diligence.
United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) report
Hatch is pleased to release our annual UNGC report, highlighting our commitment to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals in our pursuit of a better world through positive change.
In support of the UNGC, our report provides an update of the progress made in 2022 in our pursuit of the goals outlined by the UN. By providing tangible advancements and examples of relevant projects and developments, we have focused the report on the UN’s four core areas: Human rights, labor standards, environment, and anti-corruption.
We are passionately committed to the development of a future shaped by a sustainable global society. We recognize that climate change is largely caused by human activity and that it hinders this vision by negatively affecting natural ecosystems, economic returns, and community development. The resolution of this complex global problem will require multiple simultaneous strategies.
Our statement on climate change
As “entrepreneurs with a technical soul” actively participating in the metals, energy, and infrastructure sectors, Hatch is uniquely positioned—and obligated—to affect positive change on this issue as it is amongst the toughest challenges of our era. These recent projects and thought leadership initiatives highlight our commitment to sustainability and to creating a better world through positive change.
Hatch’s Environmental Management System
Hatch’s Environmental Management System (EMS) helps us to identify, monitor, and control our environmental impacts and risks. The EMS demonstrates Hatch’s commitment to continually improving environmental performance.
ISO 14001:2015 is an international standard that sets out the requirements of an EMS and requires that an organization considers all environmental aspects relevant to its operation by continually improving its environmental performance, implementing a systematic approach to setting environmental objectives and planning actions, and demonstrating achievement.
Hatch’s EMS and Sustainability Policy aligns with International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 14001 requirements and ensures that it is documented, implemented, maintained, and communicated to all employees working for and on behalf of Hatch. The scope of the certification applies to engineering, procurement, project and construction management, commissioning, and operations service consulting.
As part of the EMS, our commitments include:
- Protecting the environment
- Prevention of pollution
- Continual improvement
- Fulfilment of our compliance obligations
- Seeking innovative solutions that deliver sustainable results for our clients and communities
- Encouraging our suppliers to adopt sustainable practices
Hatch’s Mississauga and Oakville offices (2800 and 2699 Speakman Drive and 2265 Upper Middle Road East) have been ISO certified since 2014 with 2599 Speakman Drive added in 2020. Hatch’s EMS continually demonstrates advanced EMS practices and the ISO 14001:2015 certification confirms Hatch’s approach to sustainable business practices, the implementation of proactive initiatives to prevent pollution and to protect the environment from harm and the company’s commitment to continual improvement is effective.
The ISO 14001:2015 certification; our commitment to supporting the United Nations’ Global Company Sustainable Development Goals; and our Statement of Climate Change is a testament to Hatch’s commitment to sustainability.
