In recognition of her efforts, she was honored with a 2024 Positive Change Award, which celebrates individuals who have significantly contributed to our journey toward becoming a fully diverse and inclusive company.
Why do you believe in diversity and inclusion?
A company’s accomplishments are the result of the efforts of its people. A diverse and inclusive environment establishes a sense of belonging among employees. When we feel valued as an individual, we can bring our best selves to our teams and work.
Many people feel marginalized today, so we need to continually bring attention to the best practices for creating an inclusive workspace.
What do you think we need to do as individuals to improve inclusivity?
We need to practice empathy and listen to the concerns and perspectives of others. We should avoid making assumptions about how other people feel and recognize our own personal privilege.
What does positive change mean to you?
Positive change is making things better! For me, this means thinking globally and acting locally. I try to focus on what I can do to directly improve the work environment I am in. I cannot force others to change, I can only change my own actions.
What are you most proud of?
At this time in my career, I am passionate about supporting the young people at Hatch. This includes our new hires and co-op students who are hopefully considering a future career at Hatch. I have check-in meetings and organize social and professional events. I try to be available to listen and provide advice when asked.
What do you like most about working at Hatch? How do you think Hatch’s culture is different from other companies?
When I interview candidates who are interested in Hatch, I am often asked why I have stayed with Hatch for so long. My first answer is always the people I work with. We work hard to produce results for our clients while supporting each other and keeping a sense of humor when dealing with tough situations.
My second answer is the challenging work I get to do. Even at my age, I am still being asked to take on new kinds of work and continue to learn. For me, Hatch’s culture encourages me to take on these new tasks while being supported by a close-knit team of terrific people.
