Keith Joiner
Managing Director, Engineering Delivery
Keith Joiner has led some of Hatch’s most complex technologies and metals projects, developing the hands-on project expertise he now brings to his role as global managing director for Engineering Excellence and Delivery.
With more than 25 years of experience, Keith was appointed to the board of directors to oversee 4,000 professionals in all disciplines of Engineering and Project Management/Construction. In close collaboration with his fellow board members, Keith works to effectively resource projects, balance efficiency across regions, and create and open and collaborative environment for Hatch professionals to continually learn and develop their skills. He also leads the PDG Excellence group, which brings together technical leaders from each discipline and function to define PDG’s long-term goals, share lessons learned, and ensure engagements align with key business objectives.
Keith began his career as a maintenance engineer on the client side with Inco Ltd. (now Vale). There, he developed a fundamental understanding of how clients operate, experience that would prove invaluable when he joined Hatch in 1998.
Across numerous Technologies and Metals projects, Keith’s role gradually evolved to encompass all phases of work from FEL1 to FEL4. He quickly gained recognition for his ability to effectively communicate with clients, identify their needs, and develop strong relationships.
In 2011, he received Hatch’s inaugural Chairman Award for his proven success in client engagement and retention. He has also received Hatch’s internal Safety and Project of the Year awards.
During his time with the Furnace group, Keith travelled between Canada and regions in Africa to lead and support some of Hatch’s largest projects, including Anglo American Platinum’s Polokwane SO2 Abatement project, Glencore’s Onaping Depth project, Vale Sudbury’s flash furnace rebuild project, and Xstrata Nickel’s (now Glencore’s) Process Gas project.
Keith completed his Bachelor of Civil Engineering at Queen’s University and is an active member of multiple professional organizations including the Project Management Institute, Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec, Professional Engineers of Ontario, and the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum. He is fluent in English and French.
Outside of Hatch, Keith plays many outdoor sports, including ice hockey, and has always taken an active role in coaching his kids. He enjoys spending time with his wife of 20 years, whom he started dating in the tenth grade.
