Claudia Quinzio
Director, Human Resources, South America
Claudia always incorporates inclusive behaviors into her presentations at meetings by boosting the presence of women and calling on leaders to support the retention of women in the office. She has promoted the nomination of women more expeditiously in the hiring process, and in her global HR meetings, she always raises issues to facilitate and expedite the hiring of women and looks for benefits for them in the office.
It shows in the number of activities that she’s developed in-office to support co-responsible work in the family and to eliminate unconscious biases. She has brought experts on the subject to speak through video conferences and has also promoted in-office activities to celebrate women-centered days of recognition.
One of her nominators shares: “Claudia has strong ethics and competency in her field. She’s an excellent example for many of our female [colleagues] to follow.”
By forming an understanding of why women have previously resigned from Hatch, she’s making improvements in the office to have more leaders and fewer bosses, and to create activities to empower women so that they feel welcome and valued within the company.
" ... If we all work on diversity and inclusion we will build a more balanced world."
Why do you believe in diversity and inclusion?
I believe in diversity and inclusion because we are all different and unique in some way or the other, so when we have a diverse and inclusive labor environment, it brings lots of benefits: the productivity improves, everyone feels listened to and respected; but more important, if we all work on diversity and inclusion we will build a more balance world.
There are many studies indicating that workplaces that prioritize diversity and inclusion efforts have been proven to be safer, happier, and more productive work environments. Nowadays, the world’s leading companies are evolving into multicultural organizations, where diversity and inclusion are concepts that will be at the core of their mission.
Diversity and inclusion are strongly related to a sense of belongingness and uniqueness, which are both important if companies want to create and maintain strong and stable interpersonal relationships between their members. As people feel accepted and safe among a group of people, they start to create positive connections, which can turn as well into positive actions, such as loyalty and cooperation.
What do you think we need to do as individuals to improve inclusivity?
- Not discriminate in employment on the basis of race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy and gender identity), among many other factors.
- Develop and promote company policies to create more tolerant and welcoming workplaces.
- Commit towards more open conversations towards diversity and inclusion, expanding unconscious bias training, and having a strategic plan of action.
- Develop measurable metrics within the company to set goals and work permanently and consistently to accomplish them and maintain accountability.
What does positive change mean to you?
It means taking real action towards a proposed and agreed goal. It means creating a strategic plan on diversity and inclusion and committing to it permanently and consistently. Any action taken needs to be done under a participative process, including every worker and company member. It means to CARE, and live our Manifesto value of achieving no harm through respect!
What are you most proud of?
Personally, I am proud of every single thing that I have proposed to myself and made happen: getting a law degree, traveling around the world, working and teaching children of different cultures, and becoming the professional I am.
In my personal life, being a mom of three beautiful kids and being challenged every single day to raise them to become adults who respect and care about each other with a D&I mentality.
In my labor life, to be recognized by my colleagues with a Positive Change Award and being recognized for my work and the love and passion I give every single day to have a more inclusive and diverse workplace.
What do you like most about working at Hatch? How do you think the Hatch culture is different from other companies?
I like to be in a flat and connected organization, where we have the chance to daily interact with colleagues around the world, learning from different cultures and always trying to have a positive impact in our world.
