Global Managing Director, Metals

For more than 25 years, Andrea De Mori has supported multiple groundbreaking projects for key clients, propelling him to his 2024 appointment to Hatch’s board of directors as the global managing director of Metals.

Andrea has honed his expertise in project definition and implementation, technology development, and operational improvements in brownfield and greenfield environments for a wide variety of clients, market segments, and geographies.

In his role, he oversees a portfolio that includes mining, minerals, metals, batteries, and fertilizers, with a strong focus on driving Hatch’s growth and market leadership in the emerging energy transition and EV markets. He actively contributes to expanding strategic markets for Hatch, driving higher volume, sustainable work, and wider client diversification across areas such as titanium, fertilizers, iron ore, lithium, and battery materials. Together with his fellow board members and senior leaders, he has grown Hatch’s Metals sector to record levels.

Andrea joined Hatch in 1997 as a junior process engineer and has since worked on projects in Canada, Australia, South Africa, the US, the Netherlands, and other sites around the world. As his career progressed, he led the deployment of complete FEL1 to FEL4 projects, including Rio Tinto Iron and Titanium’s UGS Expansion program and the Rio Tinto Fer et Titane (RTFT) Expansion program. He also served as the technical director for a global, multi-billion-dollar titanium dioxide expansion program for Rio Tinto. More recently, Andrea has served as an active project sponsor on several Lithium and Battery Chemicals projects under construction, including the Nemaska Lithium Integrated Project and the GM-Posco CAM1 Project.

Leveraging this project experience, Andrea currently stewards Hatch’s global relationship with Rio Tinto Iron and Titanium, and has expanded Hatch’s traditional TiO2 business to multiple clients and geographies. He was also instrumental in initiating, developing, and growing key client relationships such as Tronox and Nemaska Lithium.

Andrea is widely known for leading complex technical projects in mining, metallurgical, specialty chemicals, and manufacturing environments. He is dedicated to delivering projects with fast-paced innovation and agility in technology, execution, and operational improvements.

An author of multiple technical papers, Andrea won Hatch’s award for best paper, as well as other global awards for exemplary innovation, client relations, and knowledge management. He continues to sponsor and support multiple front-end developments for new emerging technologies, both for clients and for Hatch’s proprietary technology portfolio.

Andrea holds a bachelor of engineering in chemical engineering from McGill University and belongs to the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec. He speaks four languages (English, French, Italian, and Spanish) and spends his time outside of Hatch playing and collecting guitars. He regularly participates in Hatch organized events and concerts, performing with a “Hatchified” rock band to raise money for United Way.
