Elena Martinella

Chief People Officer

Chief People Officer Elena Martinella joined Hatch in 2015 to lead the global practice for mobility and compensation, leveraging her experience supporting expatriates in more than 50 countries.

She progressed to the role of Global Human Resources Director and was appointed to the board as Chief People Officer in 2023. As Chief People Officer, she leads Hatch’s HR function and oversees a global team of more than 160 HR professionals. This team supports the business with services and programs dedicated to enhancing workplace productivity, employee experience, and workplace engagement.

Elena began her career at Ernst & Young where she held various roles of increasing responsibility. This culminated in a senior manager position, overseeing a global team to support clients with expat activity across six continents. She was a key voice in multiple global committees and developed mobility policies for several clients. During her time as a senior manager, she led a widely successful initiative to train and develop a large team based in India to partner with the Canadian team.

With Hatch, Elena brought that same dedication and integrity to her roles as the Global Director for Mobility and Compensation, the Global Human Resources Director, and Chief People Officer. In 2017, she received the Hatch Global Award for Knowledge Innovation for implementing Hatch’s first global system to track mobility-related assignments. This helped to bring global consistency in how Hatch manages its mobility program.

Elena holds a Chartered Accountant designation with CPA Ontario. She received her bachelor of commerce in accounting and business management, graduating with honors, from Ryerson University (now, Toronto Metropolitan University).

In her spare time, she volunteers at CPA Ontario’s tax clinic to keep her skills sharp and serve her broader community. She also volunteers at a local toy drive every Christmas and is an active member of the Hatchets road hockey team, which participates in the Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer event every year.

Elena speaks fluent English and Italian. She enjoys continuous learning, cooking, cycling, meditation, and yoga, and is an avid reader and traveler.
