In-depth benchmarking and analysis to highlight NYC’s value proposition
Insight-driven marketing to target offshore wind developers and OEMs
Challenges
- With significant competition for offshore wind development in the US, New York City is competing to attract offshore wind activity over other regions along the Eastern Seaboard.
- NYCEDC was interested in articulating a data-driven value proposition and competitive advantages for offshore wind stakeholders (such as developers) to locate in New York City, evaluating factors related to real estate, labor, and port facilities.
Solutions
- Hatch conducted a regional benchmarking analysis of New York City against other competitive markets on the Eastern Seaboard.
- Identified several key metrics across 16 comparable regional markets to hone an articulation of New York City’s competitive edge in the regional offshore wind industry.
- Compiled data collection results in a dynamic Excel-based model to compare development and operating costs for offshore wind facilities across the 16 regional markets.
- Identified and analyzed incentives available in each region as part of the financial analysis.
Highlights
- Leveraged insights from the comparative analysis to create a brochure and other marketing content articulating the City’s value proposition for developing offshore wind facilities.
- Identified New York City and New York State incentives available for offshore wind stakeholders that operate facilities in the region. These include the City’s strategic proximity to significant transportation infrastructure and over 30 wind energy lease areas, as well as a robust workforce and talent pipeline, with nearly 1 million currently working in offshore wind-related occupations in the City.
