Challenges

  • Supporting CNL missions of ERM (Environmental Remediation Management), Capital Projects, and S&T (Science and Technology) with their varying requirements and evolving goals. 
  • Development of first-of-a-kind system designs, such as conceptualization of a Nuclear Renewable Hybrid Energy System (NR-HES). 
  • Supporting CNL through advances in Federal programs, such as sustainability targets, and CNSC protocols while maintaining a focus on innovation. 


Solutions

  • Multiple scopes for state-of-the-art facilities at varying stages of design maturity, including building design and architecture, sustainability and climate resiliency analysis, and design of custom innovative processes and equipment. 
  • Performed nuclear technologies advising and design services in support of developing new first of a kind test system. 
  • Developing detailed plans for the decommissioning of various structures at the Chalk River site, ensuring proper handling of waste and planning appropriately for waste characterization. 
  • Providing engagement plans and recommendations to support project specific communications with the local communities to ensure that the land surrounding Chalk River remains preserved and respected.

Highlights

  • Designing first of a kind, innovative solutions to support nuclear development in Canada including fusion applications 
  • Supporting the deployment of an SMR at Chalk River Laboratories through multiple studies and support projects related to the citing and connection to the existing infrastructure  
  • Developing a highly collaborative working relationship with CNL Subject Matter Experts and Hatch design teams to ensure that projects are innovative and exceed client expectations
