Monitoring Strategies For Blast Furnaces And Electric Arc Furnaces
Abstract
Iron and steel making industry has been criticized as one of the major industries that produce greenhouse gases. The increased global awareness of carbon emission has forced modern iron and steel making industries to reduce their emission, typically by carbon capture and storage in combination with top gas recycling for the blast furnaces, and the increase level of process electrification by using electric arc furnace (EAF). Despite the transition to electrified furnaces, the need for monitoring the refractory lining, stave, and cooling element condition of process vessels remained essential for safe operation and extension of campaign life. The monitoring techniques includes Acousto Ultrasonic-Echo (AU-E), Furnace Integrity Monitoring System (FIMS), Low Frequency Pulsed Ultrasonic (LFPU) system and Leak Detection System.
