Lynnwood Link Extension Brings Light Rail to Snohomish County

September 4, 2024

LCC_Lynnwood_StationSeattle, WA, United States, August 30, 2024 - Hatch is thrilled to announce its key role in the completion of the Lynnwood Link Extension project. This significant expansion of the regional light rail system officially opens on August 30, 2024, connecting south Snohomish County to downtown Seattle, Sea-Tac Airport, and other crucial destinations.

Hatch has played a pivotal role in various aspects of the Lynnwood Link Extension, including the procurement support of light rail vehicles, design of traction power systems, train control, and communications systems. Our ongoing collaboration with Sound Transit and other local agencies underscores our commitment to delivering high-quality service and sustainability.

“As we celebrate the opening of the Lynnwood Link Extension, we are proud of our contributions to this transformative project and look forward to the positive impact it will have on the region.” -Lloyd Mack, Regional Director of Transit

The Lynnwood Link Extension adds 8.5 miles of rail with four new stations and three parking garages, providing frequent service every 4 to 6 minutes during peak hours. This extension promises substantial improvements to the public transportation system, offering a projected travel time of 28 minutes from Lynnwood to Westlake (downtown Seattle) and 11 minutes from Shoreline South/148th to the University of Washington. Additionally, the travel time from Mountlake Terrace to SeaTac is expected to be 56 minutes.

Projected ridership for the Lynnwood Link Extension is estimated to reach 47,000 to 55,000 daily riders by 2026. The service will initially operate as an extension of the 1 Line, with trains running approximately every 10 minutes at peak times. Frequencies will increase once the full East Link project opens in 2025.
