Hatch celebrates International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples and launches Reconciliation Action Plan in Canada

August 9, 2024

Dreamcatcher-newsOn August 9, we join the global community in celebrating the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, a day that recognizes the diversity and contributions of Indigenous Peoples around the world. This year’s theme is “Leaving no one behind: Indigenous Peoples and the call for a new social contract”, which calls for a renewed commitment to building inclusive and equitable partnerships with Indigenous Peoples based on mutual respect, understanding, and cooperation.

At Hatch, we are passionate about creating positive change in the communities where we live and work. We believe that Indigenous Peoples have an essential role to play in shaping a better future for our planet and society. That’s why we are proud to announce the launch of our first Reconciliation Action Plan in Canada, a roadmap that outlines our vision, commitments, and actions to foster meaningful relationships and lasting partnerships with Indigenous Peoples in this country.

Canada

Our Reconciliation Action Plan builds on our long-standing history of working with Indigenous communities across Canada and globally. It reflects our response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Call to Action 92, which urges the corporate sector to adopt the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples as a framework for reconciliation. The plan also aligns with our Indigenous Peoples Policy, which expresses our values and principles for engaging with Indigenous Peoples.

The plan focuses on four key areas of our organization: leadership, relationships, procurement and business, and employment, with objectives and actions designed to promote reconciliation action, seek Indigenous input, and encourage representation of Indigenous employees across all levels of our organization. Our chairman and CEO, John Bianchini, emphasizes the importance of Indigenous worldviews in creating sustainable outcomes for the communities we serve.

“In providing engineering, procurement, and construction management (EPCM) and other services, we advocate for and implement Indigenous inclusion across multiple projects, industries, and clients. Our ability to deliver reliable, innovative solutions for our clients globally is enhanced by our knowledge and understanding of the histories, cultures, protocols, values, and aspirations of Indigenous Peoples,” he said.

Australia

As part of our ongoing commitment to reconciliation, we are also pleased to share our Reconciliation Action Plan in Australia, which was launched in 2023 and reflects our efforts to acknowledge and respect the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples as the First Australians and Traditional Custodians of the lands where we operate. The plan outlines our actions to increase cultural awareness, create employment and education opportunities, and support Indigenous businesses and communities in Australia.

We invite you to join us in this journey of reconciliation and to learn more about our actions and commitments detailed in the Reconciliation Action Plan in Canada, and in the Reconciliation Action Plan in Australia. Together, we can build a better world through positive change.
