Hatch and partners celebrated for exemplary service when facing a structural challenge
The B.C. Transportation Consulting Engineers Awards recognizes technical excellence in consulting engineer services provided to improve the province's transportation infrastructure.
Vancouver, Canada—Hatch , Charter Project Delivery, and T.Y. Lin International Canada have been awarded the British Columbia 2023 Award for Design & Contract Preparation – Structures for the Taylor Bridge Gusset Plate Repair project located in Peace River between Fort St. John and Dawson Creek, B.C. The team, acting as the owner’s engineer, was celebrated for its exemplary service when facing a structural challenge.
The Taylor Bridge connects the North and South Peace regions and is the only structure capable of accommodating extraordinary loads across the Peace River. While conducting engineering investigations for the future of the Taylor Bridge Project using computer models and inspections of thousands of structural elements, the team detected an understrength gusset plate on a main load path of the bridge. The layout of the structural members connecting to this gusset plate required the team to design a unique and innovative repair to solve the issue in as short a time frame as possible. Throughout the process, the team communicated effectively and provided full-time onsite presence.
“We are pleased to share in this recognition of our Hatch-Charter-T.Y. Lin joint venture team. Working together, we were able to respond quickly and diligently to answer B.C.’s Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure challenges. We truly believe that our collaborative partnership brings together the best possible Owner’s Engineer team on this important project,” shares Harvie Buitelaar, Director, Infrastructure
