Texas, United States—Hatch today announced it has been selected by LyondellBasell to provide pre-commissioning engineering management services for the company’s propylene oxide (PO) and tertiary butyl alcohol (TBA) plant, which, once completed, will be the largest of its kind in the world. Hatch will support the 140-acre PO/TBA plant which is being built at the LyondellBasell Channelview Complex and the associated 34-acre oxyfuels unit, which will convert TBA into clean-burning gasoline blending components at the LyondellBasell Bayport Complex in Pasadena. Pre-commissioning is one of the last construction activities that involves verification of operational function of a plant prior to commissioning and start-up.

“We are ecstatic to be entrusted with this important scope of the project to ensure it finishes strong and helping LyondellBasell achieve safe, sustainable production at the earliest possible date,” said Tarik Haroon, Hatch’s PO/TBA Project Pre-Commissioning Manager. “We value our relationship with LyondellBasell and look to continue to invest in the Houston market.”

About the project

Once in operation, the LyondellBasell PO/TBA plant will produce 1 billion pounds (470,000 metric tons) of PO and 2.2 billion pounds (1 million metric tons) of TBA annually. PO is used worldwide in the manufacturing of textiles, construction materials and adhesives while TBA is converted into high-octane gasoline components.

When complete, the plant will meet rising global demand for products people use every day and create oxyfuels that help gasoline burn cleaner and reduce emissions from automobiles.
