Hydrogène Québec welcomes Hatch as new Executive Member

Montréal, Canada—Hatch has joined Hydrogène Québec as a new Executive Member

July 20, 2021

Hydrogène Québec is the provincial branch of the Canadian Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Association (CHFCA) in Québec and a public-private partnership with the mandate to promote the commercialization of hydrogen energy and educate the public about the benefits of hydrogen and fuel cell technologies. The branch also works to motivate stakeholders to invest in hydrogen and understand its economic opportunities in the future of mobility and infrastructure. Earlier this year, Hatch announced its membership in the CHFCA.

“Hydrogène Québec is growing at a fast pace with already thirty-five members from diverse sectors from the industry, engineering companies, research, academia, and other associations.

We are pleased to welcome Hatch and their wealth of experience in the hydrogen sector to the team!” - Michel Archambault, Chair, Hydrogène Québec

Hatch provided project management support for the construction of Air Liquide’s 20-megawatt proton exchange membrane (PEM) hydrogen project at the latter’s Bécancour plant located in Québec. Inaugurated in January 2021, the plant is the largest-of-its-kind to produce green hydrogen, producing 3,000 tonnes of hydrogen output annually, and will significantly reduce carbon dioxide emissions for the region by nearly 27,000 tonnes annually, the equivalent of more than 107 million kilometers driven by the average passenger car.

The organization was also appointed as the project management and governance facilitator of the Green Hydrogen Consortium formed by Anglo American, BHP, Fortescue, and Hatch, which aims to collectively help eliminate the obstacles to the adoption of green hydrogen technologies and encourage its innovative application. Hatch also recently announced its support of Ontario Power Generation and Atura Power's feasibility study for several hydrogen demonstration projects in Ontario.

“Hatch is pleased to be expanding our commitment to the Canadian and global hydrogen industry by joining Hydrogène Québec,” says Michel Carreau, director of Green Hybrid Systems at Hatch. “The growth potential for hydrogen in Québec is recognized by Hatch and we are proud to help shape the industry, along with our clients and stakeholders, through our participation with the Québec branch of the Canadian Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Association.”
